Bernadette Reginster,
painter and ‘plural artist’ in Laeken

My land is Katanga, my country is Belgium!

Call me 'Nadette'. I exhibited for a very long time as a Painter in Laeken. I currently define myself as a 'Plural Artist'.

Artist and painter in Laeken, my artistic approach draws its inspiration from reflections, readings and long journeys. If the first emotion is the basic element, the choice of the subject, his shooting and his lighting are all subjects that allow systematic destruction for a pictorial, photographic or architectural recomposition. It takes on a new dimension.

It is therefore a question of forgetting the first moment to return to the essential. Then through reconstruction, choice of colours and matter, I end up with a new work where the basic idea leaves room for an original creation.

All means are good to get there. I am a fan of recovery. Anything can come right sooner or later:  catalogs, papers, stones, feathers, textiles, wire, packaging, or anything else. So I keep everything to use it… one day !

Being an artist, a commitment to life

"Just as the role of the poet since the celebrated letter of the seer is to write under the dictation of what is thought, what is articulated in him, the role of the painter is to identify and to project what is seen in him ." (Free translation)

Sentence of Max Ernst quoted by Maurice Merleau-Ponty (L'oeil et l'esprit, Gallimard 1964, Folio Essais p.30)

“Artists are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the earth. They deal with more day-to-day rejection in one year than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, artists face the financial challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who think they should get real jobs, and their own fear that they’ll never work again.

Every day, they have to ignore the possibility that the vision they have dedicated their lives to is a pipe dream. With every role, they stretch themselves, emotionally and physically, risking criticism and judgment. With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life - the car, the family, the house, the nest egg. Why? Because artists are willing to give their entire lives to a moment - to that line, that laugh, that gesture, or that interpretation that will stir the audience’s soul.

Artists are beings who have tasted life’s nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out their creative spirit and touched another’s heart. In that instant, they were as close to magic, God, and perfection as anyone could ever be. And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that moment is worth a thousand lifetimes.”
